Car Breathalyzer Information Page
What is a Car Breathalyzer or Ignition Interlock Device?
A car breathalyzer or ignition interlock device is an electroic component that is attached to the vehicle electrical system. The purpose of this component is to prevent the vehicle from starting until a breath sample, below the alcohol fail level, is delivered. When an acceptable test is delivered the vehicle will start and perform normally.
Who monitors an Ignition Interlock or Car Breathalyzer Device?
Each ignition interlock device logs all events performed on the breathalyzer. This report is then downloaded via wireless connection, or a physical connection each time the unit is serviced, or calibrated.
What information is in a Car Breathalyzer or Ignition Interlock report?
The information that is contained within the report of a Car Breathalyzer is generally in a standard reporting format. This information includes many things. Time, date and reading from each test are the main content. Additional content would be whether or not there were attempts to tamper with or render the device inoperable. These attempts are recorded and then reported to the authority that is setup to monitor each individual case. Many think that tampering or attemted tampering will go unnoticed, this is a myth. Attempts to jump the starter, roll start the vehicle and disconnect power are the most common ways that attempts are made. These are all recorded by the device.
